Migrant organisations

back to the guide

Migrant organisations in Germany are as diverse as the cultures and lifestyles that they represent. Their members are mostly people who have migration experience themselves and can therefore pass on their experience to those who want to take on the challenge of making a new start in Germany. They work almost exclusively on a voluntary basis.

Migrant organisations can be leisure, youth and sports associations, but also cultural or religious communities. Migrant organisations associate increasingly with networks or umbrella organisations and see themselves as a common representation of interests, who fight for equal participation and rights of people with a migration background in German society.

Migrant organisations often offer a diverse range of services, among which are e.g. advisory and translation services, they hold events and courses, make offers in the training area for adults and children or take care of the concerns of parents and also carry out independent projects.
